I have always been interesting in equal rights for every individual. I, myself, am a minority as far as sexuality goes. I identify as a pan-sexual as I am not attracted to people of certain genders, just the person them self. I have been in love with women before, and I am currently in a wonderful relationship with a man. I have been judged and discriminated against for this. As far as women's rights go however, I believe that women enjoy more privileges than men in many aspects of life. I have never been discriminated against because I am a woman in terms of pay or just being able to get a job. In fact, I have been offered a job as a female over a male with the same, if not more qualifications. Women are also socially allowed to do more things. Let me go further into detail as to what exactly I mean here. As a woman, I am allowed to wear makeup to change my appearance and not be deemed as any less or have any negative reproaches due to my wearing of makeup. If a man does the same thing however, he is seen as 'gay' or less masculine and is punished socially because of this. Some women state the fact that "Makeup is marketed toward women so women feel compelled to use it." I can attest to this fact. I do not feel compelled to use makeup nor did I feel any less feminine or have judgement called upon me because I did not wear makeup.
Some feminists have used arguments that have been proven scientifically false. One of these is that men get paid a significant amount higher than women for the same jobs with the same credentials. I know of at least one particular business that actually pays women more than the men because they are the minority in that one company. This was a hospital and the female nurses got paid more, even though the males were required to do orderly work (such as lifting patients, etc.) when there were not enough orderlies. Issues like this are what make some men resentful of women. We get special treatment, at least all of these things are the case in the United States. It is as if these feminists and women's activists aren't actually fighting for equality, yet they are fighting for special treatment. I am all for fighting for equality, but we are beating a dead horse here by fighting for something that is no longer an issue.
I look forward to reading responses discussing why you agree or disagree. I am curious as to what other people's opinions on the matter are.
